About Best Homes, Inc.
Best Homes, Inc. has been manufacturing wood roof trusses (and formerly wall panels) since 1957, one of the pioneers in the new building component industry, which began with the invention of the metal gusset plate by Carroll Sanford in 1954. We started producing floor trusses in 1988.
The Company began manufacturing in an old dairy barn originally on the Glenwood School for Boys farm located at 183rd and Halsted Street in Glenwood. When the property was developed for residential use in 1962, Best Homes, Inc. opened a new 24,700 square foot facility on 171st St. in Harvey, IL. In 1967, we added an 18,675 square foot addition to the facility to handle growing sales.
Originally founded to supply components for a family owned residential construction company, Best Homes, Inc. has been operated by the Robert Arquilla, one of our founders, family since 1989. We serve builders, developers, carpenter contractors and homeowners in the Greater Chicago Metropolitan and Northwest Indiana geographic areas.
Currently, we employ union carpenters to build our components and union teamsters to deliver our products via truck mounted telescoping cranes. Our Truss Technician Department utilizes sophisticated computer software to create truss and wall panel drawings in accordance with our customer's architectural plans.
Best Homes, Inc. is a member of the Wood Truss Council of America, an industry organization with over 700 national members. In additional, a member of our management helped found the Greater Chicago Truss Manufacturers Association, a local WTCA Chapter in the early 1990's. We are Third Party Inspected for quality by the Truss Plate Institute, Madison, WI. In addition, we are members of the National Association of Home Builders, the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago, the Southwest Suburban Home Builders and the Indiana Home Builders Association.
